“Human scale” is one of those phrases that sounds instantly correct. Say it in a meeting and heads nod. Put it in a planning document and nobody argues. Use it on social media and you can basically end a thread with two words. The problem is that it’s often
There is a particular sound that comes right before a building is gone. Not the big crash. Not the dust. I mean the smaller stuff. The metallic groan. The concrete that pops like a joint. The sudden quiet after, when your brain is still holding the outline of a façade
Architecture criticism is in a weird place right now. Not dead. Not irrelevant. But… kind of stuck. Like it’s either (1) glossy promo copy with nicer adjectives, or (2) an academic performance where nobody is allowed to say a building is simply bad because it feels bad to be
There was a time when you could spot “luxury” from across the street. You know the look. Marble lobby. Brass everywhere. A chandelier so big it feels slightly embarrassing. Valet stand. The doorman in a coat that implies the building is important. And yes, sometimes it really was important. But
I have this weird little habit. Whenever I land in a new city, I end up walking the oldest part first. Not the shiny boulevard with the branded benches and the perfectly spaced trees. I mean the stuff that looks like it has been patched and repatched. The street that
There is a moment that keeps happening to me lately. I open Instagram, or a real estate listing, or a hotel website, and I get this weird déjà vu feeling. Not because I have seen the place before. But because I have seen the same taste before. The same beige

I keep coming back to this idea that mood is the real subject. Not the car. Not the skyline. Not the jewelry, or the tailored suit, or the absurdly expensive glass of something you probably cannot pronounce. Mood is the subject. Everything else is staging. So when people bring up

I keep coming back to this one idea that sounds simple, almost too simple. Buildings have faces. Not “facades” in the textbook sense. I mean actual faces. Personalities. Moods. Sometimes even attitudes, depending on the weather, the street, the hour you walk by. And lately, those faces are changing fast
